NEW YORK — Fans waiting in line Wednesday to enter sold-out Madison Square Garden saw highlights of Carmelo Anthony's 50-point performance when his Denver Nuggets beat the New York Knicks in November 2009.
They also saw endless possibilities as they awaited Anthony's debut as a Knick against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Then he went out and showed the New York fans a glimpse of those possibilities, scoring a team-high 27 points in New York's 114-108 win over Milwaukee. Anthony also grabbed 10 rebounds.
"I think he can help us get a championship and bring back what we had in the past," said Nick Vassi of Albany, N.Y.
Vassi is 15. He has no memories of the Knicks' glory days, with New York's last title in 1973. He can watch footage, though, and dream about how magical that era was for the city.
